NATIONAL COMPOSITES CENTRE

The National Composites Centre (NCC) is the UK’s premier facility for composite research and development, attracting innovators seeking to enhance the properties of their materials—making them lighter, stronger, smarter, and more sustainable. Its primary focus areas include Composites, Digital Engineering, Hydrogen, and Sustainability. Equipped with cutting-edge technology and world-class engineering expertise, the NCC collaborates closely with clients to address the most complex engineering challenges of our era. As part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, the NCC engages with various manufacturing sectors and has established robust partnerships across aerospace, energy, defense, space, construction, infrastructure, automotive, rail, marine, and biomedical industries. Catering to a wide spectrum of organizations—from micro-enterprises and SMEs to disruptors, the supply chain, and OEMs—the NCC offers a risk-mitigated environment for designing, developing, testing, and scaling ideas, accelerating their journey to market.

In GREEN-LOOP, the National Composites Centre is playing a leading role, developing novel bio-composite materials processing technologies and associated sustainable design and circularity frameworks, with a focus on how these can be applied in the construction and infrastructure and machinery parts sectors. This initiative concentrates on the application within the construction, infrastructure, and machinery parts sectors. Key research areas encompass the creation of eco-designs, upscaling bio-composite material production, demonstrating industrial-scale manufacturing, and establishing end-of-life circularity processes.
The NCC team also explores technology translation and exploitation of these materials and manufacturing technologies in other industry sectors.
